Yak breeding is an important part of cattle production. If it is improperly reared and managed, it will hinder growth and development and affect its future production performance. The important links in the raising of yaks are described below:
One, calf feeding
Newborn calves should feed colostrum as soon as possible. Calves should be fed colostrum 0.5 to 1.0 hours after birth. The first colostrum dose is 5% of body weight. The specific dose can be adjusted according to the specific conditions of the yak's constitution, usually 1 to 2 kilograms, and it can be fed by l0% to 12% of the body weight after one day. 2 to 3 feedings. The extruded colostrum should be fed in a timely manner. If the temperature drops, the water bath should be heated to 36°C to 38°C. Feed 3 times a day and drink 1 to 2 hours of water once a day. Dairy farms are now being weaned for 2 months or so and the amount of breast-feeding is 250-350 kg. Yak breastfeeding to achieve "three set", that is, regular, quantitative, fixed temperature. During the colostrum period, warm water is given 1 to 2 hours after each feeding. After 15 to 20 days of age, they drink water after feeding and concentrating. After one month of age, they can drink water in the drinking fountains on the playground.
Early training calves to eat plant feed is an effective measure to increase calf's growth and digestion. Seven days after the yak was born, training supplements and quality hay were started. Hay can be placed on a hay rack in the playground for free admission. After 21 days of age, chopped tuber feeds can be fed and silage fed after 2 months of age.
Second, feeding methods
At present, the use of outdoor single-column training. That is, calves from birth to weaning are individually housed in a movable calf pen. Each bullpen has three sides closed, one is open to the sun, there is no bottom, there is an open shed with a movable roof at the top, and a yak can be surrounded by a free activity fence. The bullpen is set outside the house, one column for each cow, avoiding sucking and touching each other, reducing the chance of disease transmission and reducing the morbidity and mortality. Ventilation inside the bar, fresh air and plenty of sunshine increase the yak's constitution.
Third, health management
Yak cows should pay attention to the hygiene of breast-feeding utensils when they are breast-feeding. They should be cleaned in time after each use and disinfected with steam before use. The trough should also be cleaned after use and regularly sterilized. After each feeding, use a clean towel to dry the remaining milk around the mouth of the yak and the nose, and then use the neck to clamp for more than 10 minutes to prevent scurvy and phlegm. Cowsheds and cattle beds should be kept clean and dry, and bedding should be changed. Disinfect regularly. Keep your homes sunny, well ventilated, and fresh air. Brushing is an important measure to keep your skin clean. Brush your body 1 or 2 times a day. Brushing can keep cattle clean, prevent ectoparasites from breeding and foster a more gentle character.
