The article pointed out that the Zika virus attenuated live vaccine strain can be used as a new oncolytic virus specific killing glioma stem cell, which opens a new direction for the clinical treatment of glioblastoma.
Glioblastoma (GBM) is one of the most malignant tumors in human tumors. It is a glioma. The average survival time of patients is only about 14 months, and the recurrence rate is almost 100%. The study found that glioma stem cells (GSCs) may be the key to patient recurrence, how to specifically kill glioma stem cells into one of the bottlenecks to overcome glioblastoma.
The team of researchers from the Institute of Military Medical Sciences of the Academy of Military Sciences, Qin Chengfeng, and a number of research institutes at home and abroad have worked together to find out that Zika virus can specifically infect and kill neural precursor cells and neural stem cells. Given the similarities in certain biological characteristics of neural progenitor cells and glioma stem cells, the researchers believe that Zika virus may specifically kill glioma stem cells for the treatment of glioblastoma. The team developed a non-pathogenic Zika virus live vaccine (ZIKV-LAV) through genetic engineering. The vaccine strain can efficiently infect glioma stem cells and rapidly induce a large number of deaths and prevent tumor ball formation. This study provides new ideas for inhibiting tumor recurrence and has excellent clinical application prospects.
