The gospel of the visually impaired! With this bone conduction smart ring, you can play your smartphone with just your mouth

Release date: 2017-08-09

As a new smart ring, ORII gives users the freedom to control their smartphones. The device is connected to the phone via Bluetooth and provides clear audio, which has evolved into a visual aid for the visually impaired or hearing impaired.

The ORII smart ring uses bone conduction technology. Thus, the user simply places the finger with the ring on his or her ear to clearly play any content on the phone. Whether it's a phone call, music or video clips, ORII can help you.

Similarly, the ORII ring allows the user to fully control the smartphone through voice. This ring can be used to make calls, send messages, post to social media, and more. It has partnered with Siri and Google Assistant Voice Assistant to provide comprehensive hands-free control for Android and iOS users. In addition, ORII can customize LED lighting and vibration alarms if it is combined with a dedicated app.

The ORII ring started in 2015 and has started crowdfunding on Kickstarter, with an early bird price starting at $99. It is worth mentioning that, 27 days after the deadline, it has completed and exceeded its original crowdfunding target of $30,000. Assuming crowdfunding is smooth, the ORII ring will be shipped before February.

ORII is the brainchild of Kevin Wong. His father has been diagnosed with visual impairment since he was a young man. Earlier, Wong revealed to the outside media that his initial goal was to develop a device that would help his father, such as the visually impaired, to use the phone easily.

Wong (CEO) and three other MBAs from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology founded the Origami Lab. Woog said that they are currently working with medical and nursing organizations and are committed to selling equipment to them. In terms of business, the company not only received financial support from Alibaba's Hong Kong Venture Capital and Radiant Venture Capital, but also established contacts with Chinese manufacturers.

In addition to providing new accessibility features for visually impaired or hearing impaired people, Origami Labs Labs aims to build a voice assistant platform that benefits everyone. Based on Siri and Google Assistant technologies, Wong believes that ORII has great potential to provide contextual awareness.

In other words, a keyword can touch the "organs" of the OPII and take corresponding actions. For example, hearing "Taxi" will ask if you want to automatically summon the network car. Currently, the team is working to develop a passive and non-invasive solution that maximizes battery life and protects user privacy.
