The single-season hybrid late rice cultivar Taiyou No. 1 “Taiyou No. 1†is a new combination of late-season indica rice with good yield, strong disease resistance and good plant type. The average yield per mu was 541.5 kg in 2003-2004. Compared with the control “Shanyou 63â€, the output increased by 11.2%; in 2004, the provincial production test averaged 573.3 kilograms per mu, which was 9.7% higher than the control “Shanyou 63â€. In February 2005, it was approved by the Provincial Crop Variety Approval Committee (Validation No.: ZheJingJingRian 2005001), which is suitable for the cultivation of single late rice in the province. It is one of the key demonstration and promotion varieties in the province. This combination of provincial surveys in 2003-2004 averaged 138 days for the whole growing period, which was 4.7 days longer than the control “Shanyou 63â€; the average effective mu of panicles for the 2003-2004 provincial trials was 166,000, and the total number of grains per panicle was 142.6. 128.3 grains per panicle, seed setting rate of 89.7%, and grain weight of 29.4 g; resistance to rice blast, bacterial blight, and brown rice blast.
