Management during the wintering period mainly includes water temperature control, water quality regulation, aeration, feeding and management, and disease control. Water temperature is an important factor affecting the wintering safety of tilapia. The water temperature during wintering is at least 15°C. If the temperature is lower than 15°C, tilapia will not immediately die, but it is prone to hydromycosis. For artificially heated wintering ponds, the water temperature can be maintained at around 18°C. For a convenient source of heat, the larger wintering ponds can be maintained at 20-25°C, so tilapia can not only safely pass winter but also grow slightly in winter. The water temperature in the early and late winter stays higher, but it can be lower in the middle.
During the winter, fresh water should be kept as far as possible, with adequate dissolved oxygen, and sewage and water should be changed in time.
Generally, the wintering pool of about 50m2 can be equipped with a 0.6-kilowatt aerator, which is turned on every 3 to 4 hours. Each time the engine is turned on for about 30 minutes.
During the entire wintering period, special personnel must be in charge of management, and management personnel must be responsible.
