Carnation and its cultivation points

People regard carnations as a symbol of motherly love and send them a bouquet of bright carnations to express their gratitude for the mother's parenting. Carnation is a perennial herb of the family Caryophyllaceae. It is native to Southern Europe and blooms in spring and summer. The original flowers are small and monotonous in color. Since the early 18th century, horticulturists have continuously used artificial crossbreeding to produce a large number of horticultural varieties. The flowers of these horticultural varieties are large and colorful. Planted in an artificial environment, flowers bloom throughout the year. In horticulture, carnations can be divided into two types: single flower type and multi-flower type. Each type can be subdivided into white flower system, safflower system, yellow flower system, and variegated flower system according to its color. Today, there are about a few thousand varieties of carnations in the world. Most of them are suitable for cultivation in greenhouses and other facilities. If properly cultivated, 8-10 flowers can be harvested every year, and the after-sale profit is very considerable. Carnations are usually planted with tissue-cultured, virus-free seedlings. For example, the seedlings of the mother plant are susceptible to infection with virus, which directly affects the quality and harvest of the cut flowers. Therefore, it is gradually used less and less. Seedlings can be planted between July and August. Loose and fertile soils should be used for growth. The soil with strong permeability is preferred, and the soil pH is 6.0-6.5. The basal fertilizer should be applied to the land before planting, and the liquid fertilizer should be grounded after planting, usually once a week. Since carnations are hi-calcium flowers, lime and wood ash should be properly applied during the growth period to enhance the thickness of the stems. Carnations are not tolerant to water and moisture, such as poor drainage in the field, which can easily cause rot. Therefore, it is necessary to choose a well-drained sorghum plant. Carnation plants are relatively weak and the fixed seedlings are to be covered with a nylon mesh so that each mature flowering branch is fixed within a network, so that the flower head is not too heavy to fall down. The optimum temperature for the growth of carnations is 15°C to 20°C. Planting of cut flowers can only be planted in the spring and autumn in the south. Planted in the highland areas of the southwest, as long as there are plastic film sheds such as greenhouses for protection, all grow well during the year and there are flowers for the anniversary. In the south, due to high summer temperatures and excessive humidity, leaf spot, stalk rot, spider mites, and mites are induced.
