Vietnam faces difficulty in exporting shrimp to Japan

According to Vietnam’s “Economic Times” reported on August 2, Viet Nam’s exports of shrimp to Japan have faced rigorous inspection due to excessive Ethoxyquin residues. At present, Japan tests samples of shrimp from Vietnam with a detection rate of 30%. The standard is that ethoxyquin residues cannot exceed 0.01 ppm (=10 ppb). In July of this year, Vietnam UT XI Aquatic Products Co., Ltd. faced a 100% sampling inspection of shrimp that was exported to Japan and found that ethoxyquin residues were excessive. The Japanese side indicated that if it discovers that the residue of shrimp ethoxyquinoline exported from Vietnam has exceeded the standard, it will increase the sampling test rate to 50% and 100% until the import is banned. Vietnam believes that Japan’s testing standards are too harsh and inconsistent with international practices, requiring the Japanese to reduce testing standards.
