Endangered causes: Because the scales of pangolins can be used as medicinal ingredients, they have been killed by humans and their habitat has been destroyed, causing their number to shrink sharply from the middle to the end of the last century. All species of pangolins are listed in Appendix II of CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora), and their international trade needs to be controlled. In China, pangolins are classified as national second-rate protected animals and private hunting and eating are prohibited.
